How long does it take for a drug abuse related arrythmia to convert to a regular heart rate?

Pac’son asked:

My friend has been using pills like opiates, benzos and adderall/ritalin for the past 3 years or so. He has been clean for at least 20 days but still has a heart beat that beats at least 2 or 3 times harder than usual. Will this go away, if so how long does it take? Thank you
It started after the drug use and was definetly caused by it. What kind of medications would be subscribed?

Some people natrually have a slight irregular heartbeat. Although drug abuse certainly would not help the situation. It may be something that will go away overtime and it could very well be a chronic problem that they are stuck with. In either case, its prolly a good idea to go and get it checked out. An MD is not gona bust you when you tell him about drug abuse
