No
No
Some people just get into a rough time in their life. I think that if you abused them at one point, but then changed, that shouldn’t be a reason to just let you die if you need a new organ. As far as alcohol abuse, some of that comes from your family. Not just how you grew up, but alcoholism is actually hereditary. If you fall into a bad time in your life with drugs or alcohol that shouldn’t be a death sentence. People can change and deserve a second chance in my opinion. Hopefully they learn before they get to that point. Also, who is to say that abuse of substances caused that problem? They may have eventually needed that organ anyways, whether they did drugs or drank a lot or not.

1. I agree
2. Yes
3. It is already the policy of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)
Not to list persons for the reception of donated organs who are alcoholics, drug abusers etc. It is felt (and rightfully so in my opinion) that it would be unfair to deny the organ in question to a more deserving person while wasting it on someone who will only ruin it by abusing it.

They can and are eligible for transplant if they cease the harmful activity. But they are not at the top of the list like people who, through no fault of their own, suffer organ degeneration.

I know a man awaiting a kidney transplant. “Technically, he needs to lose weight as it is unhealthy and he diabetic.

No I think everyone should be aloud transplants. Im also for Stem Cell Research because we can repair and even create organs (eventually)

My father served our country for 16 years (as I plan to) and he smokes and drinks. He did it as most soldiers do to “take the edge off”. I know its not healthy and so does he but I don’t people should let him die because of it. He did more for the country then quite a few people and because of it I think he has deserved any transplants he needs. Although I dont mean that if you dont contribute to society you shouldnt be aloud transplants.
