Should There Be a “Welfare Store” to Prevent Recipients From Buying Cigarettes, Alcohol, and Junk Food?
Question by Bronies are Terrible: Should there be a “welfare store” to prevent recipients from buying cigarettes, alcohol, and junk food?
I believe that welfare should only cover necessities – meaning healthy food (produce and meat… not TV dinners and HoHo’s).
I also believe that luxury items should be barred from purchase by welfare recipients. This includes cable TV, cigarettes, alcohol, or Xmas gifts for kids.
Do you think a specific store for welfare recipients could stop these abuses of the system? I think it would also prevent people from selling food stamps.

So they should be denied all pleasure what so ever? In your opinion.
What’s the harm in the poor having some release they wont be getting too much on welfare anyway.

You don’t buy cable in a store. Stores already refuse to sell hot food, smokes, etc to people using food stamps, and if they do, they can be fined. Many people in the military used food stamps, should we make them shop at this store too? I hope you never fund yourself in a situation where you need to use them.
