How do I let someone go without causing them to hate me?

Layla W asked:

Okay…here’s the situation: I have been married for almost 13 years and we have been separated for nearly 5 years now. He and I both have previous problems with substance abuse issues. Our children have been majorly affected by our abuse to drugs. I left him when I was pregnant with our daughter because I did not feel I could ever get better if I stayed with him. I moved out and I filed for my divorce. I had my daughter in 2002 then shortly after I began using drugs again and I became very absorbed in a new man. Since then I have went into long-term drug treatment. Our oldest child is with his parents and our youngest two unfortanately are in foster-care. He is in prison due to his inability to seek help for his drug problem and I am in a Christian-based long-term treatment facility. I am doing everything I know to do in order to reestablish my life and to claim my true identity as the woman God wants me to be. How do I cut this off before all of us get hurt any further?

so i need some help with my parents and drug abuse?

rintin asked:

ok, so i am a 15 year old living with both of my parents. long story short: my relationship with my parents is not so pleasant AT ALL, and it never has been. (especially my dad) i have been told by many (other adults, peers, family) that my parents are lazy, disrespectful, and abusive to me….im just going to leave it at that. they have almost been divorced about 3 times. but anyways, they smoke pot EVERY DAY..atleast 3 times a day. and i am thinking they do it to simply tolerate eachother, and i have noticed that when they are not high, that they are very easily angry, and rude. i mean, to a point where it is rediculous. and i ofcourse do not have a great past of my own, but i have definatly learned to not let them get to me and cause my depression to make me do stupid things.

anyways, i was wondering, is it illegal to be smoking pot (and somewhat alcoholic) when there is a child in the house? and i really think that this is affecting there actions and attitude towards me. i mean seriously….i CANT WAIT TO MOVE OUT.
also, my boyfriend that i have been with for 8 months, and his parents have told me to leave the house…..but i dont know if it is really nessesary?

How long will she detox from heroin?

soozemusic asked:

A very close family member to me is in a lockdown/detox center to detox from several years of opiate/heroin abuse. It was Monday morning when this person went in. After that, their probabtion officer said they must do at least 28 days now, but probably 60 days. This person really wants to stop – but I have never seen something so horrible. It’s as though this drug stole this person’s soul. Any suggestions or helpful information is very much appreciated. I am tearing up thinking about what has happened to this person I love so dearly. I cannot cast this person out of my life as other’s have. The judge told this person that those who do not die from heroin OD usually are the one’s in prison. (terrible thing to say). There has to be many successful recovery stories out here. Thanks.

How do I help my sister? She has problems with drug abuse, possible bulimia, and cutting. Nothing’s working!

?Fly Girl?™ asked:

I am 18, and she just recently turned 15. Yes, we have had some troubled times in the past, but she was much more sheltered from it than I was. We have a stable living condition now, and I am positive the root of her problems can be traced back to the crowd she rolls with.

I know that as teens we all have those friends that aren’t exactly ’straight edge,’ but none of her close friends are good influences to her. Seriously, her friends are ridiculous. She hangs with a much older crowd usually, and I have seen her get used by countless numbers of guys just looking for a naive little girl to prey on.

She eats very unhealthy, mostly junk-food. I cook meals for her and will try and offer her a side salad to go with her dinner of potato chips and soda, but she always refuses. I know she has been throwing up. One of her very close friends runs a pro-mia website too. She used to eat normally.

She cuts words like ‘worthless’ into her wrists. The principal found it once, it was a big deal.
We try taking away her razors and anything she could use to cut, but she always finds a way.

She is out of town now, and we have found empty prescription bottles under her bed. Some of them were my old medicines that I needed after coming out of the hospital, but I couldn’t find them. She has also popped 192 Sudafed sometime within the last 2 months. She doesn’t have allergies.

We try talking to her all the time, but the more you talk the more she resents the family. My mom tries, and she trash talks her behind her back and tries to stay as far away as possible.

She goes to counseling weekly, sometime bi-weekly. She was tested, and does not have depression.

What can I do as her older sister besides set an example?
She also drinks heavily when out with friends.

Anything bad you could think of, she does it.
She was recently moved from a large school to a small private school, but that didn’t work. She once again found the worst possible crowd of people.
She already has professional help. Everyone keeps saying ‘go to counseling.’ Well, did you not read the question?

How would my family go about doing an intervention for my self- destructive MIL?

waterlogged asked:

She doesn’t abuse drugs or alcohol
She’s a heavy smoker
She drinks nothing but coffee and soda
She eats pretty much just junk food
She doesn’t exercise
Dr. has told her that she’ll be dead within a year if she keeps smoking the way she does because she’s getting so little oxygen to her brain
She’s in complete denial and keeps wondering why she’s having so many health issues.
She won’t listen to anyone who tries to tell her it’s because she’s not taking care of herself.
