Drug Addiction: Prescription Drug Addiction Targets Teens
It is a well known fact that prescription drug addiction is the nation’s new drug epidemic and has some mental health officials baffled as to its cause. For drug rehab counselors working hands on in the addiction field it is no mystery. All drugs have a point of origin, when correlating the number of addicts entering treatment with the number of prescription drugs being distributed it’s not really hard to figure out. Recent studies show the biggest percentage of those abusing prescription drugs are teenagers.
For years treatment professionals have known almost immediately what drugs of concern should be. Although there is a slight delay from distribution to treatment admission, the sequence is much quicker than scientific studies show. Addiction treatment professionals have known for years substance abuse starts early, often as young as 10-11. However the majority of addiction cases usually start between 12-17 years of age based on scientific studies.
Drug Abuse: No Link Between Adhd Medications and Drug Abuse
For a few years now, there have been some worries among parents and patients that ADHD medication had more than just short-term side effects on the children taking them. One of the most recent concerns regarding this was the possibility of these medications making children more vulnerable to substance abuse later on in life. These worries have been around for a few years now, with some reports of cases where parents refused the medication for their children out of fear of this development.
The worry over this has had a different effect on doctors, who have very few alternatives when parents refuse to let their children be treated for their ADHD with medication. The worries over a possible vulnerability to later substance abuse came to a head fairly recently, with a few independent laboratories and pharmaceutical companies deciding to find out the truth once and for all.
I Really Need Help.!!!?
Question by Eazy: I really need help.!!!?
okay so im 17 years old and i kind of have a problem…ok i have a really bif problem. ever since i was about 13 i discovered masturbating. ive done it pretty much everyday since then sometimes up to 20 times a day. soon after i started it i noticed i started getting panic attacks/fears. All of a sudden i would be walking in the hall and just get very dizzy out of no where, also i get dizzy/lightheaded when im on the 2nd floors of buildings. i have cut down to 2 times a day but its REALLLY been bothering me with all the panic attacks i get, i cant even go on an escalator! i get this dizzy feeling that seems to radiate through my whole body, my hands sweat and my heart rate goes up and i get really warm. I believe this is all linked to my “masturbation addiction”. im about to start dating so i really want to get over this because how can i possibly go on a date to a mall that has multiple floors and escalators?! anyway does anyone else out there feel like this after they masturbate? I think this may be due to a release of adrenaline, almost every day i listen to my iPod and get pumped up for no reason other than i like the “adrenaline high” i get. i have also seen my doctor about this and he put me on Celexa (which helped for a week but gave me more anxiety/fears so i stopped it). ive also seen a pchyologist and she taught me breathing techniques which dont really help me. lol. PS im also not drinking/doing drugs or taking any prescription meds, also i havent drank caffeine in 2+ years. Thanks for all the help! i cant imagine living life again without panic attacks!
Drug Abuse: How Long Does Probation Last for Possession of Marijuana?
Question by John K.: How long does probation last for possession of marijuana?
I’m 17 years old and recently got charged with possession of marijuana. I had around 2 1/2 grams. I have no criminal record and have never had any other charges, not even a traffic ticket/violation.
I have already scheduled classes with a “drug and alcohol abuse” center thinking the court/judge would assign them to me.
I was wondering how long (if any) I would have probation for, and also whether or not this will stay on my “record” when I become an adult (age 18).

Drug Abuse Statistics: Teenage Drug Abuse Statistics in Texas
According to National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services there are anywhere between 40-60,000 people in a treatment center a month in Texas alone. Now, that is a lot of people struggling with some form of drug abuse. Among that number we see that around 27-30% of those in treatment centers are teenagers. I think it is safe to say that we are living among a generation that is affected by the use of some form of substance. It is hard for any teen to not know a family member or friend that has either used or is using some from of drug.
Another report by SAS output, another government organization, showed that the only other age group that had a higher percentage of users then those ranging from 12-17 years old were those who were between 20-30 years old. Which is scary to think about, since this is probably a result or continuation of teenagers abusing drugs well after they enter adulthood.
