Alcohol and Drug Counselor?

Question by roxannie_banannie: Alcohol and Drug Counselor?
If I would like to become an alcohol and drug counselor, would I only need my A.A Degree from my local community college. In their catalog, it says that after an A.S. is earned, there are plenty of job opportunities available. Is this true? Is it a safe career? And does it pay well?

It depends on the state you live in, as well as what your idea of being an “alcohol and drug counselor” is.

Check with the board in your state by googling “alcohol and drug counselor” and [your state name].

Plus, do what you would do to find a job after you graduate. Look in the newspaper, websites, etc.

I’d be cautious … counseling generally needs a master’s degree.

Good luck!
