January 2012 – North Dakota Tribal Communities are taking a stand against prescription drug abuse. In an effort to reduce prescription drug abuse, the North Dakota Department of Human Services, North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, and Tribal Prevention Coordinators announced today they are joining forces by launching prevention efforts to reduce prescription drug abuse. Prescription drug abuse has increased over the past decade. Limiting access to abuseable medications is an effective strategy to decrease abuse of prescription drugs. The goal of this campaign is to encourage community members to lock medications and/or keep them in a safe place. Also provided is information on appropriate disposal methods of unused medications.
