What Are the “symptoms” of ADD or ADHD?

Question by bluekitty8098: What are the “symptoms” of ADD or ADHD?
I had parent/teacher conferences last night and my son’s teacher brought up the fact the she believes he may have ADHD. She has been teaching for twenty-four years, so I believe she may have some experience with the illness (yes, I believe it IS an illness). She reccomended that I take him to our family doctor and I have already made the appoinment, but he can’t be seen until early Dec. He is 7 yrs old and a very bright child, but has problems focusing, is very rambuctious, has problems following directions (if told to do two things he can do one, but gets distracted before doing number two, etc.), he talks excesivly sometimes just blurts things out rather then waiting for the appropriate time, among other things. I don’t believe it to be a disipline issue, we have tried everything (his father and I) from time outs, taking privlages, and even spankings on the rare occasion. I was just wondering what the symptoms are and what sort of test do they run to diagnose something like this.
Sorry, I misspoke, disorder, not illness – got it (lol) see, I’m learning. What are the common treatments, I know medications, but anything else?

That sounds just like my nephew and hes is 9 and has ADHD. Im not sure what tests they do but my nephew is now on medication and i can see the difference. Last year he was getting suspended constantly for his behaviour and since being treated he has not been suspended once. I admit though i think there are other stategies that should be taken before medicating. There are quite a few places that run programs for parents dealing with ADHD and ADD check your local community for such programms and take to doctor

I have Undiagnosed ADD. “attention deficate disorder” Disorder, not illness. it just means it’s hard for me to pay attention to things. i fail in school because i don’t do homework or pay attention.. but in tests and stuff i get flying colors..

ADHD is Attention Defficite Hyper-Activity Disorder. which means he’s hyper and pretty much can’t focus on anything.. what the doctor would do would be to give him ridiline. which settles the mind. could probably make him drool. lol.

i think ADHD is a good thing and so is ADD cuz it allows me to focus on many things at once. but i can’t focus on something that someone tells me to do.. i’m constantly thinking of problems and solving them. about anything.. science, physics, math.. etc.
