To our class, it’s blaming the person for their own problem, rather than looking at the larger social picture.

People have this idea that if a girl is scantily dressed and she gets raped, it was her fault for putting herself out there. This is one example of blaming the victim, instead of blaming the assailant. People who are bullied are called losers, this is another example of blaming the victim instead of correcting the assailant. Another good example is excusing ones behavior away by claiming they are the victim. A good example is when people say they were abused as children so they become abusers, and are then smacked on the wrist and given counseling instead of being punished for their crimes, which leads them to go out and commit the same crimes over and over again on innocent people. Then there are those who claim they are victims when they aren’t. A good example is the woman who gets pregnant, and has a child she can’t support. Although she may have been manipulated she is not a victim, and until women are once again taught to act in a chaste manner, this problem will not be solved. I am not much for sociology or psychology, I believe what people need is justice for crimes committed upon their person rather than being told to deal with it alone and accept what happened to them by putting them on drugs and giving them therapy. Laws need to be strict and straight forward, with no loopholes, and people need to conduct themselves in a more honest and chaste manner, this is the only way to maintain order in society. I’m not sure if I answered your question, but I hope I gave you some ideas. 😉

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by the “Blame the Victim” factor, but my mind tells me that it is not morally correct to hold someone responsible for something that they are not responsible for in any circumstance. To do so would be unjust.
