This varies from state to state. In my state, some things that qualify:

Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to a person. Bodily injury means physical pain, illness, or the impairment of any physical condition. So, just slapping someone hard enough to cause pain counts. Even feeding someone a strong laxative concealed in food would count.

Intentionally or knowingly threatening another with bodily injury. “I’m going to beat you until you don’t know whether it’s day or night!” Just the threat counts, you don’t need to back it up.

Intentionally or knowingly causing physical contact with another when you would know or reasonably believe the contact to be offensive or provocative. So, pushing someone, jabbing your finger in their chest (even if it doesn’t cause any pain), lightly touching your butt to their frace, putting your hand on their face and giving a gentle shove, anything that might provoke a fight or offend someone.

There’s more, but I think you can get some ideas from that.

Physical abuse includes hitting, slapping, punching, choking, pushing, and other types of contact that result in physical injury to the victim. Physical abuse can also include behaviors such as denying the victim of medical care when needed, depriving the victim of sleep or other functions necessary to live, or forcing the victim to engage in drug/alcohol use against his/her will.[63] It can also include inflicting physical injury onto other targets, such as children or pets, in order to cause psychological harm to the victim.”

Calling the Police should happen if you have been hit, beat up etc.
If the threat is not imminent you need to plan on going to a Women’s Shelter” for a fresh start.
Staying in the same home and calling the Police every week is frowned on.
