The current economy continues to place more stress on individuals within our community; many are being driven to use drugs or alcohol to ease their worries caused by financial strife. This includes, a rapidly growing trend, the possession of illegal prescription drugs—addictive pain relievers and mood enhancers. Illegal possession of just one prescription pill is enough to get someone arrested.

Prescription medications are developed to aid in the treatment of specific illnesses, and can be very effective in treating individuals with the medical need for these medications; however, using prescription drugs without the supervision of a physician or for purposes different from their intended use can lead to serious adverse consequences, including death from overdose and physical addiction. When abused, some prescription drugs can be as addictive and dangerous as illegal drugs. In addition, Prescription drugs can be easier to get than street drugs—because family members or friends could have a prescription—and are also sometimes sold on the street like other illegal drugs.
