Prescription Drug Abuse: Do Something – Schara’s six

text VOTING to 30644 – socksnflipflops Jordyn Schara created a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and then started three community service projects to engage and empower teens. One of those projects is WI P2D2 (Wisconsin Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal). When Jordyn realized that expired and unwanted drugs that are dumped down our drains are contaminating our drinking water – she decided to start a drug collection program to keep you community’s water safe. However, she also learned that many people are just keeping their medicines in their homes – unsecured – and this is feeding America’s latest drug epidemic – teen prescription drug abuse. Jordyn then contacted the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) to help her organize a drug collection program. They refused, proclaimed that there wasn’t a prescription drug abuse problem and told her that she was not allowed to collect the drugs herself. Well, that was over two years ago and now Jordyn and her team of volunteers are responsible for helping collect over 18000 pounds of drugs in Wisconsin and over 302000 pounds of drugs nationwide in just one weekend! These drugs are now out of the hands of abusers and out of our drinking water. WI P2D2 has personally set up two community-wide programs, is working on their third community program and has mentored teens and young adults in numerous other communities to set up their own programs. WI P2D2 has contacted lawmakers and now Wisconsin is working to enact its own prescription drug
