What Publishers Take Books About Life on Substance Abuse?

Question by Alicia A: what publishers take books about life on substance abuse?
Hello,

I was wondering what publishers take or are interested in stories about substance abuse? I looked at ellen hopkins publishers website but I cannot find any information on their publishing services, any publisher that accepts this type of book would be great.

Thank you

It doesn’t really work like that. You need to figure out who would be most likely to read your book – teens or adults – and then decide which genre it fits into. Substance abuse is a bit too specific to be a genre.

If you can’t find information on how to submit a manuscript to a specific publisher, that probably means that publisher doesn’t accept them directly from authors. If you want to send work to that publisher, you need to get a literary agent, who will submit it for you. Most of the publishers you’ve heard of are like this now. So you need to find some agents who represent your genre and your likely readers.

Incidentally, reputable publishers don’t offer “publishing services” – you’re not hiring them to print your book for you. They choose (or not) to print your book and pay you for the right to do so. The only companies who offer publishing services are vanity publishers.

Have you written a book or are you just considering doing so? If you have a finished book, go to the library and look at Writer’s Markets – it lists 3,000+ publishing houses. Pick the ones that handle the genre in which you have written and contact them. Their websites will tell you exactly how to go about submitting material.
If you haven’t written the book or are not planning to, I’m not sure why you are asking this question
