What Do You Learn in Addiction Rehab?
Question by DAP: What do you learn in addiction rehab?
I’ve watched A&E’s Intervention all the time but they never show how and why rehab worked for those who are/were addicted?

Answer by Miles’ Mommy
Lets be honest. Rehab is just a temporary shut down for drug addicts. Therapy and prescription drugs usually don’t “cure” anyone. It prolongs the addiction by pushing it far down (to hide) for awhile. I’m not saying that everyone who goes to rehab comes out and goes straight back to their addictions but I don’t believe sitting in a big group of people talking about your problems in the past is actually going to help in any way. However you do hear success stories and that is awesome but its in the persons will power to change so they basically have done it on their own with a little assistance.

Yea we could spend some money trying to help these people . Reagan virtually ended the free mental health system in this country . And we wonder why there are so many homeless with mental issues , they can’t get any real help without insurance .
Answer by LemonTea
People (including those who are professionals in the field of mental health) need to first consider whether too many people are being diagnosed with disorders when – really – they may either just be unhappy or else have emotional problems that could mimick certain mental health conditions. In other words, people are being over-diagnosed at least to some degree these days.
