Birthmoms Are Not Drug Addicts or Child Abusers!?
Question by the Vampire Claudia: Birthmoms are not drug addicts or child abusers!?
Wow, there are no many negative comments about birthmoms and birthdads. We’re described as “unfit”, “drug-addicts”, “unworthy of being a parent in the future”. And I won’t even get into some of the rude things people say when they find out you have an older child you parent. Some people have outright said that I should have given up my four year old too! The only ones that really commend us are the adoptive parents, but I know this is for obvious reasons; because of us they have a child. Birthmother come from all walks of life. Some of us are well to do, some of us are coming out of broken marriages pregnant with an extra child we cannot be emotionally prepared for. Rarely are there birthmoms who willingly place their baby that are drug-addicts, abusive, etc. And for those adoptive parents who do things the right way, you should be commended too! It takes a lot of love a child not of your blood!
Julian’s Mom- You are absolutely right. I don’t have a problem with abortion, I do feel a woman has a right to choose about parenthood and her body. But I know too many people who are die-hard against both abortion and adoption. I guess both are sensetive subjects. But then, even if you were in a monogamous relationship (or married), people will still look at your darkly regardless of whether you aborted or placed.
What Are the Psychological Effects of Child Abuse?
Question by Cheyenne is SHOCKED by your accusations: What Are the Psychological Effects Of Child Abuse?
I have a few scenarios. please try and explain the probable outcome of each of these “abuses”.
1. sexual abuse?
2. physical abuse, like smothering and bloody lips (example)?
3. abandonment of a father figure?
4. being locked in house for months in a very rural area far away from any contact with other people? (also includes educational neglect and no friendships or contact with other child)
5. being convinced by family members to kill yourself, OR having a parent that thinks your lying and dares you?

well this sort of treatment is likely to lead to depression, anxiety around other people fearing that they will treat you the same way. and low self esteem. it is natural to feel like blaming yourself for being treated like this somehow thinking it is your fault, however it is not.

No child EVER needs to be abused, whether or not their parents have alcohol or drug problems, or they are angry. Children are not born in this world to be treated that way, at all, ever. Parents are supposed to be the adults who teach their children the difference between right and wrong, good and bad..so by abusing, they are just idiots. Children need to be taught and abuse is never the answer.

# When thinking about statistics on child abuse, it is helpful to know that the very idea of “child abuse” is controversial.

What Type of Education Would I Need to Become an RN at a Substance Abuse Detox Facility?
Question by Danyel: What type of education would I need to become an RN at a substance abuse detox facility?
I am currently going to school for pre-health with a nursing concentration, until I have the requirements to apply for nursing. I would like to be able to work as an RN in a substance abuse facility. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advise as to how to go about doing this? I do not know if I will need to specialize in a certain area in order to do so or not? If anyone could help me out in regards to what to do education wise I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi,
Why Is There a Higher Rate of Child Abuse in Foster Homes Than in the General Population?
Question by Sparkle Jumprope Queen: Why is there a higher rate of child abuse in foster homes than in the general population?
Children in foster care experience high rates of child abuse, emotional deprivation, and physical neglect. In one study in the United Kingdom “foster children were 7–8 times, and children in residential care 6 times more likely to be assessed by a pediatrician for abuse than a child in the general population”.[14] One study by Johns Hopkins University found that the rate of sexual abuse within the foster-care system is more than four times as high as in the general population; in group homes, the rate of sexual abuse is more than 28 times that of the general population.[15][16] An Indiana study found three times more physical abuse and twice the rate of sexual abuse in foster homes than in the general population.[16] A study of foster children in Oregon and Washington State found that nearly one third reported being abused by a foster parent or another adult in a foster home.[17] These statistics do not speak to the situation these children are coming from, but it does show the very large problem of child-on-child sexual abuse within the system.
