if a child is ABUSED, then that is child abuse… you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work out what is abuse… 😀

Question by Veronica: Why is it “normal” when everyone else does it but “abuse” when it’s ME?
I was arrested in July for Child abuse because I was cleaning out a closet and my allergies were acting up so I asked my 11 year old to supervise while I sat in the kitchen and got some fresh air. While I was in the kitchen my 5 year old found an iron in one of the boxes of stuff I had pulled from the closet and plugged it in and my 2 year old ended up with an inch long triangle shaped burn. I heard my son cry but when I checked on him he seemed fine and nobody mentioned anything so I went back to the kitchen, my ex came home and we went to his moms and while I was bathing the other kids my 11 year old dressed my 2 year old in his pajamas and the next day I went back to cleaning and my allergies got me again, so this time I went outside on the porch. The kids seemed fine and happy all day and once their movie ended they came out with me to play, but when I went to give my 2 year old his bath I saw the burn and had no idea what it was, so I took him to the hospital. They arrested me for child abuse. I asked them how it was abuse and they said it was because I wasn’t watching him. I explained that I was home at the time and that my 11 year old was supposed to be supervising and that it was all an accident but they said in NC your child has to be 13 years old before they can legally be out of your site!!! That isn’t even practical or possible, I have 6 kids, we can’t be taking showers all together. When I explained this to the social worker she said “you shouldn’t have had more kids than you could handle” !!!! What!? It wasn’t the kids I couldn’t handle, it was my allergies. And I read this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080326121135AA01GdW which demonstrated that almost all mothers of young children let them play alone or with a “helper” watching them. It’s unfair, WHY is it child abuse when I do it? I would never abuse a child, I love all children, I am nothing but kind to them, I don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t do drugs (which is actually why I don’t take allergy medicine because it’s a drug). I try to do the right things and be a good person and now I will have a criminal record…CRIMINAL RECORD, IN CRIMINAL COURT. It’s so unfair, it’s like, the same charge as if I had taken the iron to him myself, and what makes things even worse is that my ex took the kids and won’t let me see them even though I never lost any parental rights but with a child abuse record he can argue I am unfit, but HE does it too! (let’s them play in another room while he is in the kitchen or outside) !!! It isn’t fair!!!
To the guy who insists I do drugs, I don’t drink coffee tea or soda either!
There is a little more to the story, for example my 5 year old told me about it 3 days after the fact, he told me what happened. He told me my 2 year old cried so he hugged him. I know my 2 year old, it doesn’t matter what is wrong with him, if he gets a hug, he’s all better. My 11 year old was watching cartoons, but her siblings were suppose to be with her, they went into the room I told them to stay out of.    Read more...
