In Colorado, there has been a noticeable trend of teenagers shifting away from alcohol towards illicit drugs. The usage of illicit drugs among Colorado’s teens has steadily increased over the years, thus making it a threat and a major problem to society today. In fact, it is the reason why many Colorado companies have started running mandatory drug testing procedures before hiring teenager employees.

Not very long ago, teens depended on alcohol to get high and ‘enjoy life’. However, that trend has changed. Drugs are more popular with young adults because of the following:

The rise in drug abuse among Colorado’s teens is primarily due to an increase in the distribution of drugs. Drugs such as marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine are becoming widely accessible in Colorado. Question by Tony I: How do you prevent people seeking help here getting turned away by all the druggie questions and answers?
This is the Alternative Medicine section, but far too often it is overrun by questions and answers about getting high. I know for a fact that people who came here to ask questions have been turned off and left after seeing the forum look like a teen druggie hangout. Who is going to think they will get any legitimate advice about health issues in site they perceive as a druggie forum?

Apparently there is no screening in place for such questions, but YA does delete any question or answer that is reported which advises in favor of doing anything harmful or illegal.    Read more...

What is drug addiction?

Drug addiction is the uncontrollable use of a substance regardless of the harmful side effects that lead to severe health issues. Drug addiction refers to the action of using a particular drug in excessive amounts, or using it for a purpose in which the drug was not medically intended for. However, just dependence on a particular substance is neither sufficient nor necessary to describe an addiction. This is so because there are a few substances that do not cause addiction, but surely cause serious dependence. Some of the most common substances that are largely known as addictive are heroin, cocaine, alcohol, prescription narcotics, and meth.

Causes of drug addiction

Often if drug abuse goes unnoticed or unattended it can lead to addiction or dependence.  In some cases the user might also start using the drugs to get ease from physical pain or stressful situations.
