Types of tobacco

You are here: Home > The Tobacco connection > Types of tobacco
Tobacco use is responsible for nearly one in five deaths in the United States.”

“For each 1,000 tons of tobacco produced, about 1,000 people eventually will die. Lifelong smokers on average have a 50 percent chance of dying from tobacco-related illnesses, with half of these dying before the age of 70.”

The single greatest risk factor for oral cancer is tobacco. Oral cancer cases are seen in patients who do not use tobacco, however these specific cases constitute a small percentage (about 25 percent) of all oral cancers. All forms of tobacco have been implicated as causative agents including cigarette, cigar and pipe tobacco, as well as chewing tobacco. In India and Sri Lanka, where chewing tobacco is used with betel nuts and reverse smoking is practiced (placing the lit end in the mouth), there is a striking incidence of oral cancer – these cases account for as many as 50 percent of all cancers!

There are two types of brain tumors: primary brain tumors that originate in the brain and metastatic (secondary) brain tumors that originate from cancer cells that have migrated from other parts of the body.

Primary brain cancer rarely spreads beyond the central nervous system, and death results from uncontrolled tumor growth within the limited space of the skull. Metastatic brain cancer indicates advanced disease and has a poor prognosis.

Primary brain tumors can be cancerous or noncancerous. Both types take up space in the brain and may cause serious symptoms (e.g., vision or hearing loss) and complications (e.g., stroke).

Controversy over AD/HD is not because of one thing; there are quite a few controversial decisions related to the disorder. One reason is because the disorder was only labeled recently. 40 years ago, no one would have heard of AD/HD- people with the disorder were seen as “hyper kids” or someone with learning problems.
Treating the disorder, has only been seen in the past 30 or so years. they’re still researching treatments and only started prescribing medications under strict rules. Dosages, proper medication, causes and basically everything about the disorder are still being looked into.. treatments for AD/HD are young and still being looked into.
