How Come People Keep Saying That Mentally Ill People Are “Not Violent”?
Question by Daniel: How come people keep saying that mentally ill people are “not violent”?
Well, I know some people will be a little offended at my question, but I’ve been wondering why some people insist that we should not be afraid of mentally ill individuals. I mean, I understand that not EVERYONE with a mental illness will turn out to be violent and dangerous, but there are some that do. I mean, when I consider what I see happening on the news, it’s hard for me to be believe that mentally ill people are just as safe as those without mental illness. I am specifically talking about those with the mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder) and schizoid disorders (i.e schizophrenia). So are mentally ill people REALLY safe, or are they somewhat more prone to violence, which is what seems to be the case in my opinion? Thanks a lot in advance for your answers.
@ Peg – the problem is, a lot of mentally ill people DON’T like taking their medications!
