Book: Something Wicked This Way Comes-Ray Bradbury

Reason: It has all the thematic elements needed to keep the reader’s attention. I really like suspense, and it was a great book. The most meomorable thing was the side-show characters such as the Dust Witch, and her slime trail and the whole concept of the ‘evil carnival’ and the cliche theme “be careful what you wish for”

What Is the Premises and Conclusion in the Statement?

Question by : what is the premises and conclusion in the statement?
Many mental health practitioners are promoting the notion that alcohol abuse, drug abuse, over-eating, gambling, anorexia, bulimia and smoking are diseases. By using the disease model, its proponents believe that people are more apt to seek help because having an “illness” is more acceptable than having psychological or behavior disorder. I am reminded of the effects of saying that people with emotional difficulties were “sick,” and suffering from a “disease.” Psychology and psychiatry moved a long way forward when we listened to Thomas Szasz declare that mental illness was a myth, to Karl Menninger discussing degrees of personality organization, and to Benjamin Rush when he spoke of problems in living. Now it appears we are moving backwards. What will be the next “disease” to appear in the news media?

No relation at all
Alcohol is associated with an increased risk of a number of cancers. 3.6% of all cancer cases and 3.5% of cancer deaths worldwide are attributable to alcohol drinking. Breast cancer in women is linked with alcohol intake. Alcohol also increases the risk of cancers of the mouth, esophagus, pharynx and larynx, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, stomach and ovaries.
Acetaldehyde is produced by the liver as it breaks down ethanol. The liver then normally eliminates 99% of the acetaldehyde. An average liver can process 7 grams of ethanol per hour. For example, it takes 12 hours to eliminate the ethanol in a bottle of wine, giving 12 hours or more of acetaldehyde exposure. A study of 818 heavy drinkers found that those who are exposed to more acetaldehyde than normal through a defect in the gene for alcohol dehydrogenase are at greater risk of developing cancers of the upper gastrointestinal tract and liver.
