You can’t write the thesis statement yet. Not by a long shot. First you need a question (like “Are 12-step programs effective in treating addiction?”). Then you do research to find out the answer to that question. Then when you have enough evidence to let you answer the question, you answer it. That answer is your thesis.

So come up with a good question first.
