What Drives Kids to Become Drug Abusers?

Understanding why some teens abuse drugs require an in-depth probe into their individual conditions and the kind of environment they are exposed to. For most parents/guardians, identifying the indications of drug abuse can be hard since most of them are synonymous to typical adolescent behaviors. Drug Abuse: The Five Stages of Drug Abuse

There are five distinct stages of drug abuse. The first stage is described as access to drugs but no use thereof. are just curious about drug use; they may ask questions or ask to join those using drugs. They willingly listen to stories about the effects of drugs. They watch others obtaining drugs or using them.
In this stage, minimizing the risk factors that make a teenager more vulnerable to using drugs are an issue. Prevention is the key element here where parents take on the lead role in ensuring the well-being of their teens.

Prescription Drug Addiction and Its Risks

Most people don’t realize what a drug addiction is, never mind understanding that there are addiction treatment centers full of people who are suffering from prescription drug addiction.  Addiction is basically characterized by a craving for a substance which cannot be controlled through will power or a strong character.  Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that the same addiction and cravings that happens for street drugs and alcohol can also be related to prescription drugs.  And with drug rehab for teens growing regarding these types of drugs, education is very needed. 

The American Society of Addiction Medicine states that addiction is “a disease process characterized by the continued use of a specific psychoactive substance despite physical, psychological or social harm.”   They are very bluntly referring to prescription drug addiction and all that accompanies it.
