I Really Need Help.!!!?

Question by Eazy: I really need help.!!!?
okay so im 17 years old and i kind of have a problem…ok i have a really bif problem. ever since i was about 13 i discovered masturbating. ive done it pretty much everyday since then sometimes up to 20 times a day. soon after i started it i noticed i started getting panic attacks/fears. All of a sudden i would be walking in the hall and just get very dizzy out of no where, also i get dizzy/lightheaded when im on the 2nd floors of buildings. i have cut down to 2 times a day but its REALLLY been bothering me with all the panic attacks i get, i cant even go on an escalator! i get this dizzy feeling that seems to radiate through my whole body, my hands sweat and my heart rate goes up and i get really warm. I believe this is all linked to my “masturbation addiction”. im about to start dating so i really want to get over this because how can i possibly go on a date to a mall that has multiple floors and escalators?! anyway does anyone else out there feel like this after they masturbate? I think this may be due to a release of adrenaline, almost every day i listen to my iPod and get pumped up for no reason other than i like the “adrenaline high” i get. i have also seen my doctor about this and he put me on Celexa (which helped for a week but gave me more anxiety/fears so i stopped it). ive also seen a pchyologist and she taught me breathing techniques which dont really help me. lol. PS im also not drinking/doing drugs or taking any prescription meds, also i havent drank caffeine in 2+ years. Thanks for all the help! i cant imagine living life again without panic attacks!

Masturbation is not inherently bad. In-fact, many medical professions believe masturbation is actually quiet healthy. However, obsessive compulsive behavior is bad. Sex addiction is any form of behavioral dependency, that is of a sexual natural. So, compulsive masturbation, can be considered a form of sex addiction. The behavior associated with searching-for and consuming pornography, can also be seen as a form of sex addiction,

Addiction can either be a chemical dependency or a behavioral dependency. Masturbation and pornography, while considered a behavioral dependency, is also a biochemical dependency. True, it is human nature to enjoy sex, however, not everyone can properly moderate the desire, or amount of sex they have. Addiction is a disease and it directly effects the moderation control, found in the frontal lobe, of the brain.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) is used by both psychologists and psychiatrists for diagnosing disorders, such as substance dependence, which is essentially what addiction is. The DSM-IV offers seven criteria for substance dependence.

The seven criteria for substance dependence are:

(1) Tolerance, as defined by either of the following:

(a) A need for markedly increased amounts of the substance to achieve intoxication or desired effect.

(b) Markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of the substance.

(2) Withdrawal, as manifested by either of the following: (a) The characteristic withdrawal syndrome for the substance (refer to Criteria A or B of the criteria sets for Withdrawal from specific substances). (b) The same (or a closely related) substance is taken to relieve or avoid withdrawal symptoms.

(3) The substance is often taken in larger amounts or over a longer period than was intended.

(4) There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful efforts to cut down or control substance use. (Unmanageable)

(5) A great deal of time is spent in activities necessary to obtain the substance (such as visiting multiple doctors or driving long distances), use the substance (such as chain smoking) or recover from its effects.

(6) Important social, occupational, or recreational activities are given up or reduced because of substance use.

(7) The substance use is continued despite knowledge of having a persistent or recurrent physical or psychological problem that is likely to have been caused or exacerbated by the substance.
